Mike Abbott

Mike is a Partner at BDO, he is BDOs Defence Sector leader and he leads the Government of Canada account.   Mike’s background includes more than 30 years of experience providing professional services to organizations across multiple sectors and jurisdictions.

During Mike’s career he has supported a wide range of client challenges including external audits, IFRS implementation, Cyber Security programs and implementations, IT advisory, ERP Systems implementations, Business Continuity Management, IT risk management, internal control programs and large-scale cost reduction.  Mike has in-depth experience working with clients in Defence, High-Tech, Aviation/Aerospace, Energy and Gas and Public Sector.

During Mike’s career he has regularly worked with senior officials in providing guidance, advice and mentorship – this has included Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Associate Ministers, Chief Executive Officers, Board Chairs, Chief Financial Officers, Chief Operating Officers, Chief Technology Officers and Chief Information Security Officers.

Prior to joining BDO in January 2021, Mike was a Cyber Security Partner at Deloitte.  Mike worked at Deloitte from April 1996 to January 2021.    Mike has also been an adjunct professor at Carleton University (1999 to 2007) and Queens University (2007 to 2009).

Mike holds the CPA, CA, CISSP, and CISA designations. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of Women in Aerospace Canada and chairs its Audit Committee. He is also a member of the Ottawa Board of Trade and its Infrastructure Council. Previously, he served on the Board of Forum for Young Canadians and chaired its Audit Committee.
