A day to dream big, at a working airport
Girls Take Flight is a free, award-winning STEM event held once a year at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. It welcomes visitors from across the GTA for an up-close look at aircraft and airport facilities, and a day built on a simple idea: girls can become pilots, engineers, mechanics and scientists, and the sky is the limit.
The program brings together exhibitors, static aircraft displays, flight simulations, engineering challenges and a speaker series featuring women working right across the industry. A limited number of discovery flights, flown by volunteer pilots, offer girls aged 8 to 17 their first experience in a small aircraft.
Everyone is welcome — young people curious about STEM, the parents and educators encouraging them, industry professionals who would like to mentor, and colleges and universities sharing their aviation and aerospace programs. Girls Take Flight also runs at other locations across Ontario.
Please come and find the WIA-Canada booth while you are there. Our volunteers work across Canadian aerospace, and they are glad to talk through what their roles really involve, the paths that led them there, and the next step that makes sense for you.

Aircraft and airport facilities
Walk right up to the aircraft on display and see how a working city airport operates, with the people who keep it running on hand to explain what you are looking at.
Simulators and discovery flights
Try a flight simulator or take on an engineering challenge across the exhibitor floor. A limited number of discovery flights, flown by volunteer pilots, are offered to girls aged 8 to 17.
Speakers and career pathways
Female pilots, engineers and mechanics share the journeys behind their careers, alongside clear guidance on the educational pathways into aviation and aerospace.
