Break into Aerospace Speed Mentoring Event

Aerospace is a diverse field with opportunities for various career paths. The Break into Aerospace Speed Mentoring Event will enable students to learn more about what it really means to work in the aerospace industry. What techniques can help a new graduate enter our industry, what paths can someone take, what skills best empower them to explore a career in aerospace.

Our corporate attendees will benefit from this event through the opportunity to connect closer with new potential talent in addition to learning from the employees of tomorrow their expectations of a workplace.

WIA-Canada and Queen’s University will provide a one-hour virtual preparation session to mentors in advance of the event.

What is Speed Mentoring:

Unlike classic mentoring, where individuals have one-on-one meetings over a period; speed mentoring is meant to provide mentees and mentors the opportunity to meet with several individuals and see different perspectives in a short amount of time.

The Break into Aerospace Event will consist of 2 hours of speed mentoring and 1 hour of casual networking after the last rotation.

Small groups of mentees (3 or 4) will rotate between mentors for 20 minutes each. As a result, each mentee will meet with four mentors over the course of two hours.

Who should you submit as a speed mentor:

In line with our mission to promote Women in Aerospace, and overall diversity in the industry we are looking for varied profiles for Mentors. Below we outline some criteria to consider when selecting a mentor.

• A member of your team with any level of experience (entry level, mid-level, senior level).

• Someone who can speak passionately about your company and the aerospace industry.

• Someone open to sharing their experiences with new incoming talent.

• Seeking to showcase different sides of aerospace talent (engineers, analysts, technicians, communications, legal, finance, HR etc. )

• We encourage you to consider sending a mentor who can speak to the importance of diversity in our industry.
