Job Description
- We are seeking a talented Grant Writer to join our team and lead the development of competitive funding applications that support WIA-C’s programs, research, and national initiatives. This is a new and influential role with the opportunity to shape WIA-C’s funding strategy and contribute directly to sector-wide impact.
- Identify and pursue government, foundation, and corporate funding opportunities that align with WIA-C’s mandate (federal and/or provincial).
- Develop high-quality proposals, including needs assessments, narratives, budgets, workplans, evaluation frameworks, and required documentation.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to WIA-C leadership, providing strategic insight into funding alignment, program viability, and emerging opportunities.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive grant pipeline and funding calendar.
- Collaborate with WIA-C’s Executive Director, Program Manager, and Board to gather relevant data, research, partner commitments, and program information.
- Support reporting requirements for funded projects by preparing mid-year and final reports, data summaries, and compliance documentation.
- Stay current with trends in government programs (e.g., WAGE, IRCC, SDF, ESDC, provincial workforce funding) and anticipate funding opportunities relevant to WIA-C.
What You Bring
- 3–7 years of experience in grant writing, public funding, non-profit development, or related fields.
- Proven success securing federal and/or provincial grants (experience with WAGE, workforce development, gender equity, STEM, or education funding is an asset).
- Strong writing skills with the ability to translate technical or complex program ideas into compelling, funder-aligned language.
- Experience building budgets, evaluation plans, and evidence-based justification for proposed initiatives.
- Exceptional attention to detail, project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable working with senior leaders, industry partners, and subject-matter experts to gather information and craft strong proposals.
- A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work independently in a high-trust, mission-driven environment.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree required (non-profit management, public policy, communications, business, gender studies, or related field preferred).
Experience: Prior experience in grant development, fundraising, public funding, nonprofit operations, or policy-related work.

Additional Information
- This role can be structured as contract, part-time consultant, or project-based, depending on candidate availability.
- Compensation is based on experience and scope (hourly, project rate, or retainer).
- The role is fully remote and open to candidates across Canada.
