International Women’s Day 2020
International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action. Much has been done in the world to highlight the fact that women must enjoy the same rights, opportunities and respect as men do, because it is a matter of fairness and fundamental human rights, and because the progress in so many parts of the world depend on it.
The theme of International Women’s Day 2020 is #EachforEqual.
An equal world is an enabled world. How will you help forge a gender equal world?
Celebrate women’s achievement. Raise awareness against bias. Take action for equality.
Join Women in Aerospace Canada Atlantic (WIA-Canada.org) and Women in Science and Engineering – Atlantic (WISEatlantic.ca) as we celebrate #IWD2020 with a special screening of Pioneers in Skirts– a 60-min movie about ambition and the ongoing effort to achieve gender parity in the workforce. This film, directed by Ashley Maria, is a social impact documentary about the erosion of women’s career ambitions and what can be done about it to ensure ambitious girls and women can pursue their careers without having to combat bias in their lives and where companies will achieve diverse and inclusive work cultures. Watch the trailer. Following the movie, we will lead an impactful discussion about diversity, inclusion, and women’s life and career challenges.
This event is open to all. In fact, we strongly encourage the participation of students, educators, parents, and career men and women because we all have a part to play in closing the gender gap and addressing the stereotyping and sexism that can chip away at a woman, hurt her potential, and make her feel like she must rethink her dreams.
